No Egrets Estate Sales, getting ready for our busy season

Our summer season has already produced some great items for attendees of our estate sales.

As the summer rolls on, No Egrets Estate Sales is busy getting ready for two exciting events this summer. All are located in the Milwaukee area and we are just starting to discover the prizes and surprises we will be offering for sale.

I’ll be posting the dates and locations before each sale is about to start and also advertise the sales in the Milwaukee Journal, on line at Estate Sales.net and craigslist. We will include ads in the Auction Action Antique News, weekly paper before each sale.

I’ll ad tickler photos as we start to open closets, chests and attics.

Please watch for these sales or email me for updates for the dates, places and times. Hope to see you at all the sales.

One More Estate Sale Completed in Greenfield WI by No Egrets

Little Egret   No Egrets Estate Sales email: noegretsantiques@sbcglobal.net

Success is measured in two opposing results at an estate sale, the number of items you sell and how much money you make for a client.  In our latest sale in Greenfield WI the volume of goods sold was very high, but with disappointing results on the high-end furniture left unsold.

Rose Wood Glass Break Front

IMG_0073

Two items stand out that should have sold,  a very tall secretary with glass front top and a large glass front display case used to hold decorator plates, fine glass objects and other collectibles.

Traffic throughout the three day sale was strong and kept staff busy helping customers with questions, requests, showing items secured in cases, bringing heavy items to the checkout counter and wrapping and bagging purchases.

And there are always the questions, “Do you have a magnifier, What is this, How old is it, Does it work, How does it work, What could I use it for, Where would I put it in my house, What would my spouse say if I brought it home?”

Now I have an answer for the first question, every item is always a wall hanging, planter, plant stand, candle holder, flower vase or jewelry box. Furniture is always a storage cabinet, an object to sit on, or a place to throw your clothes on.

As for the spouse, say you bought it for them.

A Primer on Estate Sales by No Egrets

Little Egret No Egrets Estate Sales

A Primer For Transition Through An Estate Sale

When the task of transition for you, a loved one or as the executor of an estate, many questions arise concerning the disposal of personal property. Too often this becomes a time fraught with emotional feelings, quick and regrettable decisions.

Recent clients took nearly a year to decide on selling the family home and personal property of a loved one that had moved into an assisted living home. More common is the frantic call for an estate sale after a home has already been sold, and needing to be cleared for the new owners. This presents logistic problems for any estate service. The time for setting up, researching, pricing and advertising is often many weeks of advance work, before the actual sale begins.

Our first piece of advice is that family items are identified and distributed to the family. That eliminates regrets after the sale is over and the object is long gone.

When several members of a family are involved in the decision process of who wants what, we suggest all involved identify or remove items before we make our decision to conduct the sale.

One solution used before, if two or more parties are interested in the same piece, a blind bid is placed with the executor of the estate or the estate sale company to halt any argument, with the high bid receiving the item.

That said, we also recommend nothing should be disposed of until it is reviewed by our estate company. That is part of our service, and we are the best judge of what is sellable at what price and what has no salable value. One persons junk is another’s collecting passion.

Collectibles and slightly used items are sellable, there is a collector for almost everything, and often items are reused for other then their original purpose.

Items of a utilitarian nature are also sold, when the normal tendency would be to discard them. If the items don’t sell by the end of the estate sale, then is the time to dispose of them, normally to a charity of you’re choosing.

Advertising is important for success, but to insure effective placement of advertising, No Egrets will pay one half of all advertising costs. Road signage is part of our service at no cost to the estate. Permits required in some communities are at owners expense.

Research is conducted on items that are not within the normal scope of our expertise, and requires extra time for research, and included in our setup expenses.

All items are priced and staged for easy viewing, items of higher value are kept at the checkout area with small items placed in locked cases.

Our employees are there to help customers and prevent items from disappearing. All customers receive a written receipt, and state tax is collected on all sales, which we pay to the state.

Disposal of left over items are the trustee’s decision, and should be discussed and added as part of the contract. That includes disposal to a charity, or a removal service.

We welcome the opportunity to further discuss your need for our service, or help finding a service in your area

No Egrets Thanks the Customers and Friends From Our Estate Sale In Greendale, Wi

Little EgretNo Egrets Antiques and Estate Sales.

We just finished our best estate sale this year.

What a great event, seeing many of our regular customers again, plus the joy of meeting all the neighbors and other folks that saw our newspaper advertisements, flyers at local antique stores or signage on the road for this estate sale. It was our privilege to conduct this sale on quiet Riverdale Lane in Greendale, WI, for the administrator of the owner, in a wonderfully decorated home with beautiful framed prints and near new furnishings throughout.

We were especially impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the folks on the street, and the number of compliments our staff received from them and other visitors. The neighbors were very kind and understanding, putting up with lots of extra traffic on their normally quiet street. I had to borrow a tool from one and another liked our staff so well she baked them an apple pie .

Many were complimentary on the way we conducted the sale in a professional manner with easy to read price tags and displays arranged for viewing on tables and shelves.

The home had many beautiful decorative prints, lamps, great furniture and tons of useful kitchen gadgets. We heard several stories from couples looking to furnish an apartment, or new home and from moms buying for college students.

In the kitchen, the word was always, “OH, I always wanted one of these” or “Look what I found!” That included a ton of cookbooks that will inspire new owners to try different  recipes.

The collections of decorations for every type of holiday was impressive and grabbed the attention of all sorts of buyers.  It was satisfying that there were so many happy visitors.

If you are interested in having or attending future sales, email noegrets@asapnet.net or call, 414-916-7829, and we will add you to our mailing list.

Thanks again,  Dean, Valerie, Bonnie, Bonnie and Kristin.

Is Your Trash Someone’s Treasure

No Egrets Estate Sales

No Egrets Estate Sales

No Egrets Estate Sales, on conducting an estate sale.

Trash is Trash. But a toy with a missing wheel and bad paint?  Well, if the brand is Ertl or Buddy L, you might be throwing away a treasure. Old is old, and not all old is valuable. What you paid for an antique or collectible may not bring the same  value today.  That is the reason to employ an estate service when it comes time to clear out an estate or divest of unwanted items.  It is our business to know the trends in the marketplace from antiques to slightly used newer items.  Weather newer or 18th century, we have the needed resources to research each item to provide maximum return on your estate.

A signed contract spells out our commitment to provide you with excellent service.

When conducting an estate sale, several objectives are to be considered. First, to maximize the amount of your estate assets. Second protect your property before and during the sale. Third, to divest all or near all of the estate assets.

This requires staff that cleans, stages, properly prices and protects the estate from pilferage. Our staff includes a former interior decorator, a former small business owner and others with watchful eyes, pair that with our thirty odd years of antique business experience.  Newspaper advertising, flyers at selected antique stores and street signage, all with a professional touch, assures customers are directed to your sale, and have a worthwhile experience, that leads to customers of our sales watching for our next event.

At the time of the sale valuable small items are placed in locked cases and staff is stationed strategically to both assist buyers and protect the property. Booties or runners to protect flooring in inclement weather are provided.

Each customer receives a receipt and the duplicate is held for your review. Sales tax is collected and recorded in accordance with state law.   A full accounting of the sale is provided for your inspection.

May we assist you, in what is often a difficult time.

No Egrets Estate Sales in Southeastern Wisconsin and Antiques Sales

A package of canning jar lids, industrial trade magazines, pictures of people you don’t know, post cards, a bag of old buttons, an empty wood create, old canning jars, near empty spice tins, these and many more are items thought to be discards by families needing to clear an estate.  And all were sold to willing collectors.

Our first bit of advice when contemplating an estate sale is to be sure family heirlooms are removed and past on to the family. After that is accomplished, THROW NOTHING OUT.  When we are your choice as your estate sales service it becomes our job  to help identify items with completely no value and explain why.  Then show you what we see as a potential buyer wanting.

With over forty years in the antiques and collectibles market, selling at local antique shows and flea markets and on the internet since 2000, our passion for customer satisfaction never wavers.

No Egrets Estate Sales cover Milwaukee and the surrounding counties of the South-Eastern part of Wisconsin. With a professional staff to ensure  proper staging and presentation, along with appropriate pricing for maximum results. We provide a high level of security for your possessions before and during the sale.

Limited collections not requiring estate services may be purchased outright.

Please contact Valerie at No Egrets Antiques email or at 414-916-7829 for a discussion of  the appropriate options for your possessions.

Our web listings can be found on eBay at seller noegretsantiques.

Posting our Primer for Estate Sales

No Egrets Estate Sales

When an estate sale is discussed, many questions arise and in an effort to further understand all the work needed to conduct a successful sale, No Egrets offers this short note to explain some features and function of our sales.

A Primer For Transition Through An Estate Sale

When the task of transition for you, a loved one or as the executor of an estate, many questions arise concerning the disposal of personal property. Too often this becomes a time fraught with emotional feelings, quick and regrettable decisions.

One client took nearly a year to decide on selling the family home and personal property of a loved one that had moved into an assisted living home.

More common are the frantic calls for an estate sale after a home has already been sold, and needing to be cleared for the new owners.

One solution used before; if two or more parties are interested in the same piece, a blind bid is placed with the executor of the estate or the estate sale company to halt any argument, with the high bid receiving the item and the price is deducted from that person’s share of the proceeds.

That said, we also recommend nothing should be disposed of until it is reviewed by our estate company that includes any and everything. That is part of our service, and we are the best judge of what is sellable and at what price and what has no perceived value. One person’s junk is another’s collecting passion.

Collectibles and slightly used items are sellable, there is a buyer or collector for almost everything, and often items are repurposed for other than their original function.

Items of a utilitarian nature are also sold, when the normal tendency would be to discard them. If these items don’t sell by the end of the estate sale, then that is the time to dispose of them, normally to a charity of you’re choosing or to a disposal service.

Advertising is important for success, but to insure effective placement of advertising, No Egrets will pay a fair portion of all advertising costs. Road signage is part of our service at no cost to the estate. Permits required in some communities, would be at owner’s expense.

Research is conducted on items that are not within the normal scope of our expertise, and require extra time for research and are included in our setup expenses as listed in our contract.

All items are priced and staged for easy viewing. Items of higher value are kept near the checkout area with smaller items placed in locked cases. Price decisions are solely the responsibility of No Egrets Owners.

Our employees are there to help customers and prevent items from disappearing. All customers receive a written receipt, with a copy held for the final accounting and distribution of the proceeds.

State sales tax is collected on all sales except for those with tax exempt status. Taxes are then paid to the state.

Disposal of left-over items are the trustee’s decision, and should be discussed and added as part of the contract. That includes disposal to a charity, or by a removal service.

We welcome the opportunity to further discuss your need for our service.
